Privacy Policy
legal.updatedAt:
This Privacy Policy explains how Belovia (belovia.date), including our website and mobile applications (together, the Service), collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data. By creating an account or using the Service, you acknowledge this Policy. Related rules: Terms of Use.
1. Who is responsible
The Service is operated under the brand Belovia at belovia.date. For privacy and data-protection requests, contact:
- Support: support@belovia.date
- Privacy / admin: admin@belovia.date
If we register a separate legal entity later, we will update this Policy with the entity name and registered details.
2. What data we collect
- Account data: email address; password stored only as a cryptographic hash (or Google account identifier if you sign in with Google); display name.
- Profile data: date of birth / age, gender, city, optional church, bio, interests, photos you upload, discover preferences (for example who you want to see and age range), and prayer topics you choose to share.
- Activity & social data: likes, matches, reports and blocks, chat messages and related metadata (for example timestamps), prayer posts or shared prayer items you create in the Service.
- Device & technical data: IP address, device and browser or app type, approximate time zone / language, security and error logs, session cookies (web) or access tokens (mobile).
- Push notifications (mobile, with permission): a device push token and your notification preferences so we can deliver message, match, or like alerts.
- Communications: email verification codes (OTP), password-reset or security messages, and messages you send to support.
- Approximate location (optional, with consent): coarse location from the browser or device only to help suggest nearby cities. We do not sell location data or run continuous background tracking for advertising.
We do not require payment card data in the core dating flow today. If paid features are added later, billing details will be processed by a payment provider under their terms, and this Policy will be updated.
3. How we use data
- create and maintain your account and profile;
- operate dating features (discovery, likes, matches, messaging);
- operate prayer-community features you choose to use;
- verify email, secure accounts, prevent fraud and abuse;
- send service emails and (if enabled) push notifications;
- moderate content, handle reports, and enforce our Terms;
- improve reliability and user experience;
- comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.
Where GDPR or similar laws apply, legal bases may include: performance of a contract (providing the Service under the Terms), consent (for example push notifications or optional location), legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, product improvement that does not override your rights), and legal obligations.
4. Cookies, sessions, and mobile sign-in
On the website, authentication uses a secure httpOnly session cookie required for Login / Register. On the mobile app, we use a protected access token stored on the device. These are essential for the Service to work. We do not currently use third-party advertising cookies or advertising SDKs for behavioural ads. If that changes, we will update this Policy.
5. Sharing with others
- Other users: see the profile and content you make available in the Service (for example name, photos, bio, prayer topics shared publicly in features designed for that).
- Google: if you use Google Sign-In, Google processes data under Google's policies. We do not import your Google profile photo by default; you upload your own photos to Belovia.
- Infrastructure providers: hosting, database, email delivery for belovia.date, and (for Android push) Firebase Cloud Messaging / related Google services needed to deliver notifications.
- Authorities: when required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users, Belovia, or others.
We do not sell personal data. Processors act on our instructions to run the Service.
6. Retention
We keep personal data while your account is active and as reasonably needed to operate the Service, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations. Security logs and backup copies may persist for a limited additional period. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it where practicable.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to receive a copy of personal data you provided (portability), and to request erasure.
To exercise these rights, email admin@belovia.date or support@belovia.date from the address linked to your account (or with enough information for us to verify you). We will respond within a reasonable time as required by applicable law.
Self-serve account deletion inside the app or website may not be available yet; deletion and related requests are handled through the contacts above. You may also withdraw optional consents (for example by disabling push notifications in device or in-app settings). You may lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority.
8. Security
- HTTPS / TLS encrypts traffic between your device and belovia.date;
- Passwords are stored as cryptographic hashes (for example bcrypt), never in plain text;
- sessions use httpOnly cookies (web) or access tokens (mobile) with restricted server access;
- moderation, reporting, and blocking tools help reduce abuse.
Chat messages travel over HTTPS but currently do not use separate end-to-end encryption (unlike apps such as Signal). No method of online transmission or storage is 100% secure. Please do not share information in chat that you would not want visible to support or moderators if needed for safety.
9. Children
Belovia is for adults aged 18+ only. We do not knowingly collect personal data from people under 18. If you believe a minor has registered, contact us and we will take appropriate steps. See our Child Safety Standards.
10. International processing
Servers and providers may be located in the European Union or other countries. Where data is transferred internationally, we take steps appropriate under applicable law to protect it.
11. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. The "Updated" date at the top will change. Material changes may also be communicated in the Service or by email. Continued use after the update means you accept the revised Policy, except where additional consent is required by law.
